Our annual coffee morning for cancer research exceeded all expectations by raising more than €1,000 for the Irish Cancer Society and Cancer Care West. We hosted the event on Daffodil Day – Friday 23rd March in the foyer of Biomedical Sciences and it truly was a team effort with all members of the Apoptosis Research Centre and many more from the building contributing to the delicious bakes on offer. No less than 30 different cakes, buns, biscuits, cookies, coconut and chocolate swirls etc. were baked with love for the event! The evening before added a competitive edge to the occasion as bakers posted their progress on Twitter #DaffodilDay #CoffeeMorning4CancerResearch
The sun shone on Friday morning and the yellow baloons and daffodils in full bloom brought the crowds in from all across campus. Staff from Biomedical Sciences, ILAS, Engineering, Administration, HR and many more offices made the effort to come along. We were also honoured by a visit from the new President at NUI Galway, Ciaran Ó’hÓgartaigh, who supported our cause and joined us for a cup of tea. All in all it was a fantastic, collegial event, that brought staff and students together while raising vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society and Cancer Care West.
